報(bào)告內(nèi)容簡(jiǎn)介:

Workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are increasingly recognized as vital components in healthcare organizations. Yet, the academic landscape lacks robust theoretical frameworks and empirical research that delve into the influence of DEI on patient outcomes. Using a longitudinal dataset from 2017 to 2021, we examined DEI metrics, staff-reported patient safety incidents, and employee DEI feedback from Glassdoor for 120 NHS Trusts in England’s acute care sector. Our analysis demonstrates that a standard deviation increase in workforce DEI corresponds to a notable reduction of 6.227 patient safety incidents per 1000 admissions. Delving deeper into organizational and regional boundary conditions, we find that healthcare organizations with higher organizational complexity exhibit a more pronounced advantage from DEI initiatives in enhancing patient safety. Implementing DEI initiatives in healthcare organizations, especially in regions with higher patient racial diversity, can significantly reduce patient safety incidents. We thus provide healthcare policymakers and institutions with actionable insights on strategically tailoring DEI initiatives to improve patient safety.
