主講人簡介:
Alan Porter教授1975年加入佐治亞理工學(xué)院工業(yè)與系統(tǒng)工程學(xué)院,任教至今。他同時(shí)也是該校公共政策學(xué)院的教授,并曾執(zhí)掌佐治亞理工學(xué)院技術(shù)政策與評(píng)估中心的工作。1991年至1993年他擔(dān)任佐治亞理工學(xué)院技術(shù)管理項(xiàng)目的執(zhí)行總監(jiān)。
Alan Porter教授是將文本挖掘技術(shù)用于技術(shù)預(yù)測與評(píng)估的全球領(lǐng)軍人物,其研究領(lǐng)域主要包括技術(shù)機(jī)會(huì)分析、技術(shù)管理、技術(shù)預(yù)測和評(píng)估。目前的研究方向則主要集中在技術(shù)機(jī)會(huì)分析,特別是利用數(shù)據(jù)庫所提供的數(shù)據(jù)以計(jì)算機(jī)輔助的方法開展信息挖掘與分析。Alan Porter教授創(chuàng)建了 Technology Analysis & Strategic Management for Information and Decision Technologies(面向信息與決策技術(shù)的技術(shù)分析及戰(zhàn)略管理)學(xué)會(huì),并先后擔(dān)任影響分析通報(bào)的主編,學(xué)會(huì)秘書長,執(zhí)行總監(jiān)和主席(1995-1996)。他曾經(jīng)擔(dān)任美國工程教育協(xié)會(huì)工程與公共政策分會(huì)主席;美國電氣工程師協(xié)會(huì)(IEEE)技術(shù)預(yù)測與技術(shù)轉(zhuǎn)移委員會(huì)主席;他是貝爾通信研究所顧問委員會(huì)理事(Bell core Advisory Council)?,F(xiàn)任Search Technology公司首席科學(xué)家。
內(nèi)容簡介:
I report on a study of ‘Big Data & Analytics’ (“BD” for short). BD is emerging rapidly, so we are interested in profiling research on it to answer “who, what, where & when” questions. This talk describes our ‘tech mining’ approach (combining bibliometrics and text analytics to study Science, Technology & Innovation information resources). I illustrate for the BD case, which is doubly interesting for us as we “use” a form of BD analysis to gain a “meta” perspective of general BD patterns and trends.
Devising a sound search query to retrieve BD-related research records poses a special challenge due to the diffuse and rapidly changing nature of the field. This initial study focuses on 7006 BD publication abstracts indexed in the Web of Science for 2009-2015. A striking finding is the extent to which the US and China dominate the research – accounting for over half of the world’s total effort. Topical analysis and mapping offer perspective on what the field is pursuing. We seek to spotlight the hot topics in a hot field. It is also interesting to map the highly diverse disciplines involved in BD, led, of course, by computer science.
